Figure4-3 Seismic activity in the Tohoku region and the subducting Pacific Plate (M 2 or above, May 1975-April 1995, depths of 300 km or less).

The seismic activity with subduction from the upper right of the figure (east) to the lower left (west) is occurring along the subducting Pacific Plate. This distribution shows that the Pacific Plate is subducting under the Tohoku region. Also, the apparent lateral seismic activity region in the upper right at a depth of 0 and 30 km in the Pacific Ocean was the result of an analysis error.
