A model of the spread and slip of the rupture zone is shown for earthquakes occurring on shallow land. Research is ongoing regarding the details of the series of processes shown in this figure. Research is also progressing rapidly on the generation of earthquakes as well as on their growth and spread (figures 1 and 2) in rupture zone.
