The following trenches run along the Japanese archipelago. East side: the Tisima Trench (Chishima Trench, Kuril Trench), the Japan Trench, and the Izu-Ogasawara Trench. South east and South sides: Sagami Trough, Nankai Trough, and Nansei Islands Trench (Nansei Shoto Trench).
