Figure6-4 Seismic activity in the Chubu region and the subducting Pacific Plate (M 2 or larger, 1987-1996, depths of 300 km or less).

Seismic activity that is inclining downward from the upper right (east) to the lower left (west) is occurring along the subducting Pacific Plate. From the distribution of these earthquakes, it is apparent that the Pacific Plate is subducting under the Chubu region.
