Figure2-24 Active fault surveys (trenching).

This is a trenching near Kobutizawa (Kobuchizawa) that lies on the Itoigawa-Sizuoka Kozosen (Itoigawa-Shizuoka tectonic line) fault zone. The active fault has created a formation that looks similar to a bank (arrow). The wall at the bend shows slipping of the stratum mixed with rock created about 10,000 years ago; this indicates that earthquakes have occurred sometime in the past 10,000 years.
